Whiskers is built around a local-first product experience. This policy explains what we collect through the website and direct sales flow, what stays on your Mac, and when third-party services are involved.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the Whiskers website, direct software sales, support communications, and the Whiskers macOS application. It describes how information is handled when you visit our site, contact us, purchase a license, or use product features that rely on third-party services.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the information reasonably necessary to operate the website, fulfill purchases, respond to support requests, and maintain the product.

  • Contact details you provide to us, such as your name, email address, and the contents of messages you send to hello@whiskers.app.
  • Transaction and order information associated with a direct purchase, such as the product purchased, order status, refund status, and limited billing details made available by the payment processor.
  • Technical website information that may be generated by standard hosting infrastructure, such as server logs, IP addresses, browser details, and request timestamps.

3. Information Whiskers Processes Locally

Whiskers is designed as a native macOS application with a local-first workflow. By default, dictation audio is processed on your device. Audio does not pass through Whiskers servers as part of the core local transcription experience.

Transcripts, history, vocabulary data, and related app data may be stored locally on your Mac so that the application can function. How long that data remains on your device depends on your in-app settings and your own device management practices.

4. Optional Third-Party Services

Some Whiskers features are optional and may involve third-party services that you choose to enable.

  • If you select a cloud transcription provider, the audio or data required for that provider to perform transcription will be sent directly to that provider.
  • If you enable AI cleanup or enhancement, transcript text, not raw audio, may be sent to the provider you configure for that purpose.
  • If you make a direct purchase, payment information is processed by the applicable payment processor. We do not receive or store full payment card numbers.

Your use of any optional third-party service is also subject to that provider's own privacy terms and policies.

5. Telemetry and Analytics

Whiskers does not describe itself as a telemetry-driven product, but the marketing site may use privacy-masked website analytics to understand which pages, calls to action, and purchase paths are working. This helps us improve the website and hosted checkout flow without turning the product itself into an always-on telemetry system.

  • We use Microsoft Clarity on the marketing site to understand page visits, button clicks, form starts, and similar website interactions that help us improve the purchase and download flow.
  • We do not intentionally send payment card details, download-form names or email addresses, or social-discount submission contents to Clarity as custom analytics data.
  • Where required, analytics may be gated behind regional consent controls before tracking is enabled.

6. How We Use Information

  • To provide the website and deliver software licenses or downloads.
  • To process payments, refunds, and order support requests.
  • To respond to customer service, technical support, and privacy inquiries.
  • To maintain the security, availability, and integrity of the website and direct sales workflow.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

7. Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, including recordkeeping for purchases, refunds, support, security, and compliance. Information stored locally by the app remains under your control on your device unless and until you delete it.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information under our control. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Choices

  • You may choose not to use optional cloud transcription or AI cleanup features.
  • You may contact us to request access to or deletion of information we hold about you, subject to legal and operational limitations.
  • You may request a refund within the applicable refund window described in our Terms.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date shown on this page. Material changes will apply prospectively unless applicable law requires otherwise.
